Literacy Program: Each September, Republican Women's Clubs across the country are urged by the National Federation of Republican Woman to promote Literacy in their communities. One of the ways we do that is participating in Literacy Day in March at a local Elementary School. Our members enjoy reading to the students, in addition to donating books and other items classrooms and Libraries.

SPAN: At every meeting, we collect donations for SPAN. Members please bring something from the following list to donate to this cause:
Food Items: Cereal, Boxed Rice, Pastas, Spaghetti Sauce, Canned Meats (sausages, tuna, beef stew, chili, Spam, etc.) Peanut Butter and Jelly, Macaroni and cheese, Pancake Mix, Pancake Syrup, Canned Fruit and canned Vegetables, Pork and Beans, Potato mixes (mashed, scalloped, au gratin), Stuffing mix, Muffin and Bread Mixes, Ramon's Noodle soups, and snack foods for children
Toiletries: shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste, female hygiene products, toilet paper.
ARDEN HOUSE: Arden House, the YWCA emergency domestic violence shelter, opened its doors in 1984 and to date has served over 1,000 women and children fleeing abusive relationships. The house provides safe shelter and support services to single and parenting women who are victims of domestic violence.
Arden House is the only domestic violence shelter in Anne Arundel County and it runs the county's only domestic violence hotline. Arden House is a 24-hour, 21-bed crisis facility which is open 365 days per year. The shelter is confidential.
The shelter provides a variety of support services: case management, individual and group therapy, financial assistance, career counseling, educational groups, and more.
Donations can be brought to the SPRWC General Meetings.
Items desired include Gift Certificates for groceries and children's clothing stores, prepaid phone and gas cards. Baby products include diapers, baby formula, gently used baby clothes, portable cribs, car seats, cleaning supplies, coloring books, craft items, bedding, personal toiletries, batteries, book bags, school supplies, books. New or gently used women's suits and other career clothing items (all sizes but 16 plus are needed the most), new pairs of socks or nightgowns.
SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS: We are proud and dedicated supporters of our Troops, and do many activities during the year to contribute to their positive morale and welfare. These include collecting supplies and making giant Christmas stockings (over 100) to send to platoons at Christmastime. We also send cards and collect donations on a regular basis.
