County Council Meeting July 6th
Monday, July 06, 2009

County Council meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the Arundel Center in Annapolis on July 6th, 2009.  The council is supposed to vote on the slots bill -perhaps if enough people show up opposed to the proposed zoning maybe they’ll pay attention.   There’s a possibility we can get it opened back up for public comments next month (although they won’t hear anything from the public that night).  for additional information see Amy Leahy's letter to the editor under Anne Arundel County News.

The Baltimore TEA Party
Thursday, July 02, 2009

April 15th, while rainy and a bit chilly, was as it turns out, a fine day for a tea party in Annapolis! While difficult to determine exactly how many people attended, there were at least 1500 patriots and some say as many as 3000. There were wonderful speakers and a very enthusiastic crowd as we all witnessed each ceremonial box of tea (representing the myriad of increased taxes) dropped into the bay. It was uplifting to see so many sharing our concern and outrage over the spending that we witness both federally and locally. It was great fun to read all of the many signs that the crowd brought along, and an honor to live in a country where a peaceful protest of our government can unfold. Also very exciting indeed to see the grass roots efforts of so many across the country come to fruition. Our club was instrumental in assisting to organize this event and we are proud that so many were able to attend despite the harsh weather.

YOU MUST RSVP to Rici or Mike at (410) 768-3900 if you plan to attend. (Space is limited)

Whispers of Glen Burnie is hosting a "Business Owners Town Hall Meeting"

Delegates Dwyer, Kipke and Schuh along with Senator Simonaire will be on hand to hear from the Business owners of Anne Arundel County regarding issues concerning the business community.

There is no doubt that if you own, operate or manage a small business in Maryland, you have been faced with ever growing license fees, permit fees and just about any other fee that can be levied on our businesses. Not to mention the increase in corporate taxes.  Unfortunately, there seems to be very few legislators willing to stand up for the small businesses of Anne Arundel County.

Fortunately the legislators representing District 31 are willing to listen!  Please come and participate and have your voice heard by those who represent you.

The format:  Legislators will be introduced (No speeches or presentations will be given). Then we will get right into allowing you to voice your gripe, complaint or praise

regarding your business.  You will also be given the opportunity to ask specific questions of your State elected officials. Delegate Dwyer will MC the event.

There will light fare along with a cash bar.  There is no cost to attend

P.R. Bazaar an Opportunity to “Meet the Annapolis-Area Press”

Save your choice of dates for a unique, Annapolis-area version of Meet the Press.

The 2009 edition of P.R. Bazaar will be held the evenings of Monday, June 8 and 15.  The events start when the doors open at 6 p.m. for registration and networking.  The panel will be seated at 7 p.m. on both evenings.

There’s so many excellent print and broadcast media in this area, for the second year in a row, the traditional one-night event has been spread over two evenings.  Attendees can chose to go to the first, the second or both.

Unless there’s a major breaking story, 11 local seasoned editors, reporters or producers have volunteered their time to serve as panelists at the annual P.R. Bazaar, held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis, 333 Dubois Road, in Annapolis, Maryland, 21401

P.R. Bazaar is open to the public.  Folks handling public relations duties as volunteers, with cultural groups; non-profits such as PTAs, Scouts, School Clubs and Sports, Community Groups, youth groups, and charitable organizations; or small businesses and government agencies are welcome to attend.

This is neither a college-level course, nor will you learn everything you need to know to run a killer public relations campaign.  There’s no guarantee your next story will appear on the “front page above the fold” – or get 35 million hits on youtube.com.

But, in a friendly atmosphere, you’ll get a quick introduction or a learn a fresh take on an old news angle with this opportunity to hear from respected media professionals.  Day-in and day-out, they bring the world home to the people in this community.  They really do think globally and act locally.

On Monday, June 8, P.R. Bazaar is hosting Editorial Representatives from Annapolis Times, WNAV 1430 Radio, The Capital, Bay Weekly, Maryland Public Television and What’s Up Magazines.

The evening of Monday, June 15, these media have accepted our invitation to appear at P.R. Bazaar:  What’s Up Annapolis Magazines, SpinSheet Magazine, Severna Park Voice, The Capital, Taste of the Bay Magazine and What’s Up Magazines.

You will have the opportunity to ask the panel questions and to network with them and other members of the audience.

Past attendees have commented the two evenings provide a good opportunity to meet various members of the media in a relaxed atmosphere.  “It’s helpful to learn preferences and other details from various media representatives all at one sitting,” said one.

Admission is a $10 donation per person for one evening, $17.50 per person to attend both events.  Checks may be made out to “UUCA.”  Reserve early to ensure a seat and enough take-away materials for everyone.  RSVP by emailing Wendi@quantumstep.com or by calling  410-349-0945.  Please specify whether you are attending June 8, June 15 or both evenings.

Light refreshments will be served.

The UU Church of Annapolis is reached by turning off Bestgate Road onto North Bestgate Road, driving past St. John Neuman RC Church, and turning left onto DuBois Road.  At the bottom of the hill, turn left into the church’s back parking lot.

Campaign Treasurer Training
Saturday, May 30, 2009

Maryland Republican Party is hosting a half-day Campaign Treasurer Training seminar in Bowie, MD.  Treasurers will be hearing from Jared DeMarinis, Director of Candidacy and Campaign Finance at the State Board of Elections.  MDGOP Candidate Recruitment Chair Chuck Gast and I will also be sharing some ideas on how treasurers can help their candidate fundraise and warning of common traps to watch out for in the world of campaign vendors and spending.

The invitation is pasted below, along with the registration form.

This is a great time to get direct answers from the head of the campaign finance division at the State Board of Elections.  Candidates as well as treasurers are welcome and encouraged to attend.  If you can’t make it but see an area listed that you need more information about, this is a great time for you or a campaign staffer or volunteer to get inexpensive training

If you want to take part, I do need an RSVP by May 28th.  There is a $25 per person fee to cover the cost of the room and materials, also due by May 28th.  You can mail a check, or call us to pay by credit card over the phone.

If you have any questions or just want more information, please feel free to contact me by email or call me at 410-269-0113.

Sincerely,

Justin Ready

P.S.

Want to let you know about a rally at Upper Senate Park, just across Constitution Avenue from the Capitol, on May 23rd which is Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.  The event is the Defend America Rally and the purpose is to raise the awareness of citizens to our loss of individual freedom to the federal government as America moves toward socialism and to raise the awareness of politicians that we will not tolerate this.  Details of the rally are on the web site  www.defendourconstitution.org and on Facebook as well.

"We are pleased that hundreds of Americans, especially the young Americans who will inherit our country, will be in attendance to insist that our politicians adhere to their sworn oaths of office to defend our Constitution and its insistence on individual freedom and liberty." - Mike Love of Defend America Rally.
