Volunteer Opportunities

The Severna Park Republican Women's Club is involved in many opportunities to volunteer in our community.

In addition to the vacancies found under the officers listing found on the home page the following are volunteer opportunities.

MDGOP Headquarters: Many hours have been donated by SPRWC members to assist the MDGOP headquarters, in Annapolis, with office tasks and telephone needs. There is currently a need to stuff envelopes- any time you may wish to donate toward that end is greatly appreciated. Please contact the office if you are interested in this volunteer opportunity.

USO Collection: Please remember our soldiers in your thoughts and prayers.  And to show you are thinking of them, please donate some of the example items to our USO collection.  A collection box is located in Chesapeake Treasurers in Park Plaza in Severna Park.  These items are given to the USO military lounge at the BWI airport.  As the soldiers come through either going home or going to a tour of duty, they are given our donated items.  Remember, it is difficult to buy these items in some tour of duty locations.  Donations can be dropped off in a box located at Chesapeake Treasures (Hospice) in Park Plaza.  Thanks.

Suggested items:  Toothpaste/Tooth brushes; Aspirin/pain reliever; Shampoo/conditioner; Sunscreen/lip balm; Disposable razors; Shaving cream; Tissues; Bars of soap; Cough drops; First aid items; Stationary; Hand lotion; Sewing kits; Shoe polish kits; Postcards; Pre-paid long distance phone cards; Pencils/pens; Games; Playing cards; VHS/DVD movies; Disposable cameras

Literacy Program: (more on this program can be found under committee reports)

Each September, Republican Women's Clubs across the country are asked by the National Federation of Republican Woman how they promote Literacy in their communities. One of the ways we do that is participating in Literacy Day in March at a local Elementary School. Books and other items are donated to classrooms and their Libraries, as well as members going into classrooms to read as a guest reader.

2010 Elections will be extremely important to our party. Any volunteer hours that you are willing to give toward the election campaigns of our Republican runners are greatly appreciated. Contact information to be coming soon.

Signs that you are willing to put on your property are also helpful. This is another way you can be of service to these campaigns.

Their corporate sponsors /advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammograms in exchange for advertising.

Helmet Liners for our Troops:

"Helmet Liners" for the troops in Afghanistan is an added item to our Christmas Stocking project. The liners are being knitted & crocheted by the members of the SPRWC. Join us in this endeavor - SPRWCavr1@aol.com Helmet Liners, in addition to providing warmth, make wearing helmets more comfortable, which encourages soldiers to keep them on and prevents head injuries. Troops have greatly appreciated the liners and feel encouragement from home knowing someone cared enough to take the time to knit for them. The liners must be made according to strict specifications, including being made of 100 percent wool (which will not burn in an explosion like acrylic), knitted according to the pattern and made only of yarn in colors that will not put soldiers in peril -- such as tan, gray, brown, black and drab olive green. These colors are approved and sanctioned by the Military and they are the ONLY ones acceptable. Ann Virginia Rasmussen is our coordinator on this project.
